The recognition, introduced and read in the legislature as a commemorative resolution, noted that Catholic schools on Guam have served the island for more than 76 years and highlighted this year’s theme, "impacting our community and inspiring Guam." Senator (presenter) said the schools “pervade the academics that really promote excellence” and praised their inclusion of faith in students’ education.
Father Jeff, representing the Archdiocese of Agana Catholic schools, thanked legislators for their support. “I don’t think anyone would doubt the very key role that Catholic schools have played on our island,” Father Jeff said, expressing appreciation for parents, teachers and past administrators who have supported the system.
The resolution text cited the National Catholic Educational Association’s establishment of National Catholic Schools Week in 1974 and noted the local system includes 11 Catholic schools serving more than 2,711 students and about 353 faculty and staff. The presentation named several local schools and groups in attendance, including Santa Barbara Catholic School and representatives from Notre Dame and Dominican schools, and concluded with a photo opportunity featuring Speaker Frank Blas Jr.
