The Tempe Elementary School District introduced its 2024–25 interest-based negotiations teams and described the annual process used to gather staff input ahead of bargaining.
Presenting for the district, Mr. McGuini introduced district administrative team members including Chief Financial Officer Eric Thompson, principals Colleen Love and Bernice Sharp, and principal Matthew Strauss. Association representatives introduced included district staff and teacher leaders such as Allison Holden (PACE teacher), Christina Palmeran (office manager), Taylor Webb (language arts teacher), Kelly Blucic (behavior interventionist) and Sean Coker (carpentry manager).
Mr. McGuini said the district has participated in interest-based negotiations for 20 years and emphasized staff participation: the district sends an annual survey to employees to collect input on salaries, benefits and working conditions. The survey opened Dec. 9 and, per the presentation, closed at 5 p.m. the day before the meeting. The teams compile responses, read comments line by line, develop a list of hot topics and prepare proposals that are reviewed by the superintendent and then the board; matters approved by the board are incorporated into work agreements and contracts for the following year.
Presenters said the team has already met and will next convene on Friday the 17th to continue work on identified topics. Board members thanked volunteers for participating in the unpaid, time-consuming process and expressed appreciation for a process that channels staff voice into bargaining.
