MADERA — The Madera County Board of Supervisors unanimously reaffirmed its consent-calendar action Tuesday and agreed to incorporate public comment into the record regarding a consent item related to a contract with the U.S. Forest Service.
Christopher Garza submitted a written statement and spoke during public comment about agenda item 11429 — described in the agenda as a county administration and fire department contract with the U.S. Forest Service — urging the board to take no action because of Brown Act concerns. Garza said state and federal law would be applicable and asked the board not to act on the item until public participation concerns were addressed.
County counsel said staff had erred in the timing of some information but that the item had been on the posted agenda. The chair and several supervisors discussed options including a motion to reconsider; ultimately the board made a motion to reaffirm the prior consent action and to incorporate Garza’s statement into the record. The roll call vote to reaffirm and include the public comment passed 5-0.
The board did not reopen substantive debate on the contract at the meeting; the agenda item remains recorded as part of the consent calendar and the public comment was included in the official record per the board’s action.
