Residents mark sale of 28.6-acre Ransom Road parcel and thank council for harbor repairs

Several residents used the Jan. 6 public-comment period to thank city officials and raise local concerns.

Melinda Williams of Acre Point Realty Group told the council she represented buyers and sellers in the sale of a 28.6-acre parcel on LWR Ransom Road and presented a token of appreciation. "You should be very, very happy and very proud that this has been sold because it's gonna add value and be phenomenal to this community," Williams said. She said the buyers expect the site to require about 18 months of remediation to meet specifications from the Texas General Land Office, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Resident William Gilner said he visited Con Brown Harbor and observed crews repairing finger docks at the boat ramp and preparing work on the fishing pier. "They're repairing the finger docks at the boat ramp and they're going to be moving on to the fishing pier and, weather permitting, it'll all be done in about two weeks," Gilner told the council.

Alex Tan, another commenter, praised several city employees and suggested hiring additional help for grass-cutting and improving recreational amenities such as basketball courts. Tan urged the council to consider stricter landscaping enforcement and a targeted code-enforcement approach for repeat violations to improve the city's aesthetics and appeal to tourists.

Those public comments were offered during the council's citizen-comment period and did not prompt immediate council action; council members thanked speakers and noted staff follow-up where appropriate.
