Kanosh updates Corn Creek dam work and drafts standard operating procedure

Town staff reported that work on the Corn Creek Dam project is continuing and that the town’s engineering consultant has petitioned funding and permitting agencies for additional time and money to cover agency-caused delays and cost increases.

A representative said Lane Jensen of Franzen Engineering filed requests with the agencies that set project deadlines, arguing that delays were caused by other agencies and that additional time and funds are warranted; staff said they expected a prompt, affirmative agency response based on the petition. The council was told the town signed documents authorizing the consultant to pursue time extensions and additional funds and that the town is awaiting the agencies’ responses.

Separately, the council discussed the draft dam standard operating procedure (SOP). A work meeting was held the previous evening, and staff are writing the SOP based on the council’s preferred direction. The draft SOP is still under staff preparation and will be returned for council review once written. No formal adoption of the SOP was recorded at the meeting.

The council was also updated on other project items, including no new substantive developments on related items since the last meeting and that staff are continuing coordination with engineers and regulatory agencies.
