Consultants from the engineering team Jones & Mill gave the Fountain Green City Council a final review of the water and sewer master plan on Feb. 20 and recommended near-term monitoring and longer-term capacity planning.
The consultant said the city’s culinary water sources and distribution are generally in good condition and stressed that acquiring additional water rights as they become available remains prudent. The team also recommended the city measure spring overflow so spring production can be tracked over time.
On wastewater, consultants told the council the collection system is largely intact but has shallow-slope reaches that should be monitored and cleaned regularly to avoid backups. Their highest operational concern is treatment capacity: the town’s lagoons will need additional area or other treatment options as the community grows. Consultants recommended continued use of screening devices to extend lagoon life and suggested early planning for additional treatment capacity.
Council members were briefed on separate, ongoing work to clean sewer lines after recent flooding. City staff said a vendor cleared debris from the collection system last month and will maintain an ongoing cleaning schedule.
No binding decisions were made at the meeting; councilors were asked to use the master plan as a project guide and to coordinate on locating future looping water lines to improve fire flow in dead-end areas.
