Council schedules Highway 155 cleanup for May 3; plans second cleanup later in summer

Cleveland Town Council members agreed to hold the town-organized roadside cleanup along Highway 155 on May 3 and discussed scheduling a second cleanup later in the summer.

Council members said the group will align the event with youth volunteer schedules and arranged for safety supplies, including orange vests and collection bags. Speaker 3 said, "So May 3? What time do they start that? Like, 8." Speaker 2 and others discussed timing to fit school volunteer hours and noted the worst mile of the route is the stretch up to the Airport Subdivision.

The council discussed whether to hold the second cleanup in June so it would be completed before Cleveland Days or to schedule it in September; no formal motion was recorded. Speaker 1 urged earlier timing so the roadside would "look nice," while Speaker 5 summarized the typical route and the most littered section outside of town. Members also discussed recruiting youth council volunteers and logging service hours; Speaker 2 said the age range for volunteers is "12 to 18, I believe." Speaker 1 confirmed the town holds supplies and bags for pickup after the event.

Logistics discussed included vest and bag supplies, notifying the office for bag pickup when finished, and the possibility of using dumpsters. No formal budget appropriation or contract was recorded at the meeting.

The council asked organizers to begin recruiting volunteers and to confirm logistics (safety vests, trash bags and pickup) ahead of the May 3 date.
