District staff presented the Lake County school report card and student-data overview at the Jan. 13, 2025 meeting, describing federal accountability metrics, school-level performance and measures of growth, achievement and graduation rates.
Staff reported that overall federal accountability determinations are “satisfactory,” with some improvements on measures such as chronic absenteeism and graduation at the high school. Presenters said elementary and middle grades showed mixed results in achievement and growth; one school’s metric (named Margaret in the presentation) moved from 36.3 to 27.2 in a cited category. Staff noted the federal formula differs from state graduation calculations and described the mix of measures used for high-school “ready graduate” determination, including early post-secondary opportunities and industry credentials.
Superintendent Dr. Burton introduced Jamie Elliott as the new Lake County High School principal. Board members and staff described facility improvements and workforce partnerships: the district is pursuing approval for the high school to be a TCAT (Tennessee College of Applied Technology) satellite campus, with contractor work completed in recent weeks and staff hopeful TCAT approval.
Presenters emphasized continued work on instructional materials and coaching to support improvement, and they said some data and report-card materials were delayed because of a school-recording (Synergy) issue; staff expect to post final report cards after data corrections. Board members acknowledged progress and asked staff to provide more detailed breakdowns on request.
The superintendent and staff thanked instructional coaches and new staff for their efforts and noted upcoming school events, testing windows and student recognition programs.
