Harrisburg council committee advances sign-language interpreting contract to legislative session

The resolution, read into the record as “Resolution 3 2025,” would cover sign-language interpreting services for legislative sessions. President Bowers said the contract was redrafted for the new year and provided statistics from 2024 showing Halcyon provided interpreting for 15 legislative session meetings totaling 32 hours and $5,744.81; an additional invoice from Nov. 26, 2024, is expected.
The contract terms discussed include mileage reimbursement for interpreters and a staffing rule that meetings lasting two hours or more require two interpreters. President Bowers moved to add the resolution to the next legislative session for a vote.
No formal vote on the contract was taken in the work session; council members did not ask further questions during the discussion and the matter was referred to the upcoming legislative agenda for formal consideration.
