Zion council approves street closures for Nostalgia Days and Labor Day, lease and engineering contract; tables daycare special-use permit

At its May 20 meeting the Zion City Council approved temporary street closures for two summer events, renewed a lease for a daycare property, authorized a one-year engineering services agreement and tabled a special-use permit for a different daycare. Several routine items, including bills and minutes, were also approved.

Zion City Council on May 20 approved a slate of routine and event-related items, including temporary road closures for the city's Nostalgia Days and Labor Day Parade, a one-year professional engineering services agreement, and a lease renewal for a daycare property; the council also tabled a separate special-use permit request for a different daycare.

The actions move forward plans for summer events and municipal operations. Council members voted on consent-agenda items and individual ordinances and resolutions during the regular meeting held in the municipal court chamber.

Temporary road closures: The council approved resolutions to request Illinois Department of Public Works and Buildings permits to temporarily close Sheridan Road for two events. The Nostalgia Days car, truck and motorcycle show was approved for Sheridan Road between 20 First Street and 30 First Street on June 14, 2025, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Labor Day Parade closure was approved for Sheridan Road between 20 Third Street and 30 First Street on Sept. 1, 2025, from noon to 3:30 p.m. Both staff presentations cited Section 4-408 of the Illinois Highway Code as the authority to request state permits.
