Zion council approves street closures for Nostalgia Days and Labor Day, lease and engineering contract; tables daycare special-use permit

Temporary road closures: The council approved resolutions to request Illinois Department of Public Works and Buildings permits to temporarily close Sheridan Road for two events. Lease renewal for daycare property: The council approved an ordinance to authorize a lease between Martha's Daycare Incorporated and the City of Zion for property at 122520 Seventh Street. The item moved on a motion and passed by roll call; the lease term and annual amount were discussed briefly during the meeting and one participant referred to an annual rent figure of "$250 a year," though the ordinance text provides the authoritative lease terms.
Engineering services contract: The council approved a proposal from Christopher Burke Engineering for professional engineering services to provide staff-engineer assistance during fiscal 2026. Staff described the agreement as a one-year contract not to exceed $90,000, with flexible weekly-hour options (an 8-hour and a 16-hour option) and the expectation that actual spending could be less than the not-to-exceed amount. Zoning docket tabled: The council considered zoning docket 25-Z-7, a request by Precious Angels Daycare Learning Center for a special-use permit under an identified section of the Zion Municipal Code to operate a daycare at 2730 Sheridan Road. A motion to table the item until a meeting with a full board was made and seconded; the motion carried and the item was tabled to the next regular meeting.
