The Muhlenberg County Board of Education approved two change orders for the Longest Elementary School demolition project and awarded a construction contract for the Muhlenberg County Middle School field house during its December meeting.
Project staff presented Change Order No. 1 for the Longest Elementary demolition, which reduced certain line items after crews discovered extremely deep existing concrete slabs and opted to leave the building’s front wall in place for structural reasons. The board approved Change Order No. 1 by voice vote.
Shortly afterward the board considered Change Order No. 2 for Longest. Project staff said when crews exposed the footings they found concrete footers much deeper than typical — reportedly over 10 feet in places — so the deduction in Change Order No. 1 was reversed and the additional work and costs were reinstated. The board approved Change Order No. 2 by voice vote.
The board then considered a contract award for the Muhlenberg County Middle School field house. The board confirmed the district had awarded the bid to CNC Construction and noted that an AIA agreement is required between the owner and contractor for capital construction projects. The board approved the contract with CNC Construction by voice vote.
Board members asked for and received brief clarifications about the nature of the demolition work and the field-house contract; no additional conditions or changes to the bids were recorded in the meeting.
