Muhlenberg County Board recognizes two departing members, introduces successors

The Muhlenberg County Board of Education honored outgoing members Susan Wells and Daryl Bowers and introduced appointees Logan Porter (District 2) and Jan Yountz (District 3).
The Muhlenberg County Board of Education opened its December monthly meeting by recognizing two longtime members who are rotating off the board and introducing their successors.
Board chair Stephanie Henry presented plaques and lifetime athletic passes to outgoing members Susan Wells, who represented District 3 since 2017, and Daryl Bowers, who began serving in District 2 in February 2013. Henry credited both members with guiding the district through superintendent transitions, the consolidation of middle schools and responses to natural disasters, saying they “have demonstrated the competencies of the profile of a learner, and are true examples of empowered learners.”
Wells and Bowers spoke briefly during the recognition. Bowers said he has appreciated the experience and noted his age as a reason for stepping down: “I’m 81 years old, so it’s time I relax just a little bit,” he said. He added he was ready to “buy me a motorcycle.” Wells said it had been “an honor to serve” and praised district staff and principals for their work with students.
The board then introduced the two incoming members. Logan Porter will fill the District 2 seat formerly held by Bowers. Porter graduated from Muhlenberg South High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in business finance from Kentucky Wesleyan College. He has worked at Old National Bank for 21 years, currently at the Central City office, and serves on local economic and school-related advisory groups, including the student bank program at the high school.
Jan Yountz will take the District 3 seat formerly held by Wells. Henry noted Yountz’s local ties and long career in education, including service as Greenville mayor from 2014 to 2022, roles with the Greater Muhlenberg Chamber of Commerce and a background as a high-school guidance counselor and kindergarten teacher. Henry also listed awards Yountz has received, including the 2017 Muhlenberg County Citizen of the Year.
Henry closed the segment by thanking the departing members for their service and welcoming Porter and Yountz to the board.
