Minnetonka Board recognizes students and staff for state and national honors

The district honored dozens of students and staff on items including adapted bowling state qualifiers, Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, robotics and music honors, and national program recognitions.
At the start of its May 29 meeting, the Minnetonka School Board held its monthly recognitions program to honor student and staff achievements in athletics, academics and the arts.
The district celebrated adapted-bowling state qualifiers and singled out senior Brady Malay for finishing fourth individually in the PI division. "I just wanna say I'm so proud of our team this season," coach Jesse Nelson said in remarks recorded for the board. "We had 10 Minnetonka students that made the state tournament this year." Nelson named players who qualified and praised the season.
Students earning Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and Scholastic writing honors were listed and congratulated; sophomore Reika Gomez, who earned an award for a novel excerpt titled Again, She Rises, said writing lets her "share our stories" and explore cultural identity.
The board also recognized the Minnetonka High School robotics team, Chicken Bot Pie, which qualified for the Minnesota state tournament and won the Innovation Controls Award at a regional competition. Students and advisors described the team as a place for collaborative technical learning.
Other recognitions included 15 students earning medals in the national French contest Le Grand Concours; 28 elementary and middle students selected for American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Minnesota honor choirs; and Minnetonka Public Schools receiving the NAMM Foundation Best Communities for Music Education award for the twelfth consecutive year. Gina Manky, district vocal department chair, accepted the NAMM award and thanked staff, families and the district.
Additional honors included Minnetonka High School senior Maya Sandy, selected as a Borlaug (World Food Prize Foundation) intern who will study at Earth University in Costa Rica; fifth-grader Wade Selby, who qualified for the Scripps National Spelling Bee; and Minnetonka Community Education being named a top-10 community education program in North America by the Learning Resources Network (LEARN).
Superintendent David Law and board members congratulated all honorees and thanked teachers and coaches listed by name for their support.
The recognitions were presented as an informational segment; no board action was associated with the program.
