Emergency management sets LEPC annual meeting; FEMA reimbursements may be delayed, county updates LEOP

Randy Hagewald of River Fire Emergency Management briefed commissioners on recent call totals and upcoming public training and meetings. Hagewald said the county had eight calls in the reporting period, bringing the yearly total to 23, and reminded the public of upcoming CPR and Stop the Bleed classes open to the public and firefighters. He announced the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) annual meeting at the Mount Oread annex on Jan. 23, at 7 p.m.; the meeting will include bylaw review and election of officers. On federal reimbursement, Hagewald said FEMA paperwork and reimbursements tied to disasters (including wildfires and recent hurricanes) are being handled at the city and department level and that payments can take years; county staff said they would follow up with agencies handling claims. Hagewald also reported that the county’s Local Emergency Operations Plan (LEOP) is being updated to meet 2023 standards and expects completion by March.
