Commissioners approve routine business: appointments, tax cancellations, licenses and construction bid

Grand Forks County commissioners approved a set of consent and routine business items during their Jan. 7 meeting, voting on appointments, tax items, licensing and a construction bid.
Items approved under the consent agenda and subsequent motions included:
- Reappointment: Teresa Hogg was reappointed to the Grand Forks County Human Service Zone Board. The director of the Human Service Zone brought the request and said the board supported the reappointment; the motion passed unanimously.
- Tax item: The commission approved cancellation of an attached list of uncollectible mobile-home taxes as requested by county tax staff; motion passed unanimously.
- Personnel/hiring: The commission approved filling a vacant real-estate-appraiser position; the motion passed unanimously.
- Licenses and permits: The board approved bills and employee status changes, a special-event permit for the Ford’s funeral rifle club, dealer licensing and liquor licenses for Laramore Golf Club and the county, all as part of the consent agenda; these items were moved and approved unanimously.
- Construction bid: The commission accepted the Supreme Construction bid (details in staff packet) and authorized a resolution for the chair and auditor signatures to proceed; motion passed unanimously.
- Parliamentary and procedural items: The board adopted Robert’s Rules of Order for commission proceedings and designated Haley Womstead as parliamentarian; both motions were approved by voice vote.
- Personnel action: The Human Resources department was directed to place a letter of reprimand in an individual personnel file (motion passed unanimously).
- Support letter: The commission approved a request for the chair’s signature on a letter of support for the City of East Grand Forks’ application for another Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RISE) grant; motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: These routine approvals complete administrative business needed for county operations, personnel actions and procurement. The construction bid acceptance and personnel actions will move forward under the usual administrative processes; the reappointment keeps an existing member on the county’s human services board.
