Cole, who led the presentation for the legislative committee, described the agenda as a product of department and committee collaboration that organizes policy positions into 10 focus areas: home rule, community development, economic development, affordable housing, homelessness, public safety, infrastructure and transportation, sustainability, parks and recreation, and administrative services. The document also identifies five cross-cutting themes—community-centered solutions, equity and accessibility, statewide collaboration, local control, and opposing unfunded mandates—and uses a simple “support/oppose” framing under each focus area.
Why it matters: Council members said the agenda gives the city a clearer, proactive platform for tracking and influencing state bills during the legislative session. Members emphasized the value of having a small committee vet bills and meet regularly during session to recommend positions or amendments.
