The council set the recommended starting salary for the administrative assistant at $4,121 per month and the management analyst at $5,851 per month for the packet that will return for finalization; the council asked staff to re-publish the two positions and bring back clearer documentation for public review.
Council members debated whether raising the top step while lowering starting steps was the intended change from prior action; some members asked that staff confirm the intent and return the amended schedule with clarified language so incumbents are not adversely affected. The city attorney advised that staff should return with clarified language and that any substantive change would be re-noticed so the council and public have a clear record.
A roll-call vote approved the salary schedule with the stated exceptions and directed staff to add the two positions back on a future agenda with clearer documentation and, if necessary, a public hearing.
