Student Advisory Committee asks board for $2,000–$3,000 survey incentives, bylaws update and campus outreach plan

Student advisory committee Chair Luis Sanchez and Student Regent Cheyenne Erlington presented the committee’s priorities to the Board of Regents, asking the board to support a systemwide survey of students and to fund modest incentives to improve response rates.
“We believe that an incentive will be highly motivational for a student,” Sanchez said, describing a proposed incentive pool of $2,000 to $3,000 to be distributed across the system as gift cards, scholarships or other supports to encourage participation.
Erlington reviewed SAC’s proposed updates to its governing bylaws, noting the committee’s last formal bylaw revision was in 2013 and that some institutional names in the bylaws still reference CT Technical College rather than the unified CT State system. The students said updating bylaws is necessary to ensure accurate representation and correct quorum calculations for student meetings.
SAC also outlined plans to conduct SGA campus visits across the system, hold monthly “virtual community connection” sessions and explore a systemwide student leadership conference in fall 2025. Sanchez and Erlington described a proposed systemwide student survey intended to identify the key barriers to student success and said they would work with institutional research to design the instrument and analyze results.
Chair Gueye asked SAC to provide a list of primary SGA representatives and a detailed budget for the survey incentive; Gueye offered to attend one campus visit with a student leader next year. Board staff and general counsel were asked to advise on the most appropriate incentive vehicle (scholarship, gift card, etc.).
