Box Elder reports all schools met state progress-monitoring standard for students below grade level in reading

Box Elder School District officials told the board that the district met the state’s progress-monitoring expectations for students who are below or well below grade level in reading.

Assessment staff said the state requires teachers to progress-monitor well-below students every other week and below-grade students at least monthly. The district reported that 100% of its schools met this requirement this year, compared with a state average that rose from roughly 33% last year to about 64% statewide this year.

Assessment director Jeff Morris and district leaders credited school staff, paraprofessionals and administrators for the work required to meet the state standard and said the accomplishment reflected targeted support and monitoring for students needing intervention.
