West Warwick council approves licenses, fees, equipment purchases and moves to executive session

The West Warwick Town Council on Jan. 7 approved a series of routine and administrative items including a business license, updates to the town's fee schedule, equipment purchases for the police department and a motion to enter executive session.
By voice vote the council approved the consent agenda and the minutes from the Dec. 17, 2024 regular meeting. The council also approved a business license for HomeSmart to operate as Fresh Home Maid Donuts Inc.; the motion for that license passed by voice vote.
The council adopted an amendment to Appendix B (fees and charges) to list an "extra recycling bin" fee. Council discussion clarified how the fee is applied: the initial cost for a second bin is $150 and there is an ongoing charge of $150 per year for the additional bin; the fee applies to second/additional bins, not routine replacement of a damaged bin. The council approved the fee listing by voice vote.
The council authorized the police department to purchase three replacement tasers (with batteries and cartridges) to replace units that had reached the end of their service life; the police chief said the purchase is for three tasers plus battery packs and cartridges. The resolution authorizing the taser purchase passed by voice vote.
The council also approved entering into an agreement to purchase four police vehicles, described by the police chief as three marked patrol vehicles to replace decommissioned marked cars and one detective/administrative vehicle to replace a unit that will not pass state inspection. The police chief said the police detail revolving account has sufficient funds for the purchase and that the vendor was selected based on availability and delivery schedule. The motion passed by voice vote; the transcript reports the purchase amount in garbled form (transcript: "175000 hundred and 49.27 dollars").
Finally, after the listed agenda items the council voted to move into executive session; the motion to enter executive session passed by voice vote.
