Citizen Advisory Board elects Roger Efron as chair after Lloyd Weed leaves for City Council

The Venice Citizen Advisory Board unanimously elected Roger Efron as its new chair during its meeting, following the departure of long-serving member Lloyd Weed, who said he has been appointed to the Venice City Council.

Board members voted 8-0 to elevate Efron after two nominations were made and a roll-call vote was completed. Efron told the board, “Thank you, board and, members for this honor,” after the vote.

Lloyd Weed addressed the board during public comment before the vote, saying he was “recently appointed to fill a vacancy on the Venice City Council” and that his obligation to leave the advisory board was his only hesitation about applying for the council appointment. He thanked members for their service, saying he believed the board “has been blessed with strong, dedicated, informed, and wise members.”

Before the vote, Dr. Davis said he preferred to remain as vice chair and did not accept a nomination to be chair. The board then proceeded to nominate and elect Efron by roll call, with Miss Panfil, Mister Carr, Mister DeFales, Mister Heaney, Mister Ellis, Miss Moscatelli and Doctor Davis recorded in favor.

The board noted that Weed’s council appointment creates an open seat on the advisory board. No appointment to that vacancy was made at this meeting.

Efron, who said he may need to “move” in the near term, acknowledged the challenge of following Weed’s leadership and said he appreciated the board’s confidence.

The vote and the public comment by Weed were recorded on the board transcript; no additional formal actions on filling the open seat were taken at this meeting.

Looking ahead, the board will continue its normal activities under Chair Efron and will await council action to fill the vacancy created by Weed’s appointment.
