Amanda Peregrina Turner to be recommended for reappointment to Human Rights Commission

Amanda Peregrina Turner, a current member of the Human Rights Commission, introduced herself to the Public Works Committee and described her experience working with immigrant children and community nonprofits.
Councilor Carol Bush called the meeting to order and invited Turner to speak. Turner said, “this is gonna be my tenth year with the Human Rights Commission.” She told the committee she came to Tulsa in 2004, described earlier work creating programs for street children in Mexico and later teaching immigrant children after she moved to the United States.
Turner emphasized that her long-term work with community nonprofits and programs motivated her continued service. Committee members thanked her for her service and raised no objections. Councilor Bush said the reappointment “will be brought up at our 05:00 on June 4,” and invited Turner to attend.
The committee did not vote at the meeting; staff indicated the reappointment will be placed on the Council docket for the June 4 meeting.
