Maintenance staff told the Mifflin County School District board that one of two main boiler pumps was repaired and is back online and that staff had used electric heat at the building following a gas leak in January to prevent frozen pipes. The use of electric heat was noted as likely to cause a spike in the utility bill for the month when it was in use.
A separate electrical issue — a circuit breaker trip that occurred the Friday before the meeting — was discussed. Maintenance staff said the trip appeared to be caused by multiple space heaters (referred to as "warmers") plugged into a single outlet, which overloaded the circuit; a staff member named Helgelt was credited with troubleshooting and resolving the problem.
Board members and staff also discussed that the room where the heaters were used is not configured to host equipment of that type, and that future temporary heating should be sited or rewired to avoid recurrence. The group suggested running a separate line or using an alternate room to reduce risk.
No formal board actions were taken on the maintenance items during this meeting; the items were reported to the board for information and to prompt operational adjustments.
