Yuma District 1 reports nearly $24,000 in donations; student art and Raleigh Preschool celebrated

Superintendent Mr. Sheldahl reported the district received $23,968.71 in donations this month, bringing year-to-date donations to $84,695.19. Individual donations reported included a $1,500 check from Yuma Dentistry for Kids for Raleigh Elementary, a $2,500 check to Roosevelt Elementary from Yuma Dentistry for Kids, a $9,005.18 line of credit from DD's Department Store for OC Johnson to buy books, $3,083 in band instruments and supplies donated to Palmcroft Elementary, and multiple DonorsChoose gifts across schools. Desert Mesa Elementary received two electric scooters to be given to two fifth-grade students, and other smaller DonorsChoose and local contributions were noted.
The board also viewed student artwork from Castledome Middle School created using a technique the presenter described as "neurographic art," a creative method attributed in the presentation to psychologist Pavel Pescarev. Trustees and staff encouraged attendees to view the display.
Separately, the board recognized James B. Raleigh Preschool for earning a five-star Quality First rating, the highest level in that program.
Ending The superintendent thanked the community for its generosity and staff highlighted that arts, music and PE continue to be part of instruction across the district.
