The board approved three related settlements involving plaintiffs identified in the meeting as Katie Martinez ($38,000), Kania Martinez ($31,000) and Monica Perez, as legal guardian of Hector Matute ($10,000). In addition, the board approved a separate settlement in the matter of Kevin Claret against the sheriff's office for $27,000. The meeting record shows the chief financial officer was authorized to amend the budget to reflect appropriate revenue sources and expenses for these settlements.
A public roll call followed the executive session approvals. For the Kevin Claret settlement, Commissioner Tasha Allen stated on the record that she was abstaining because of a conflict of interest related to the sheriff's spouse; the meeting shows the other votes carried.
