Board awards $8.38 million contract for high-school baseball and softball field renovations using 2024 bond funds

The College Station ISD board on Dec. 17 approved a recommendation to award RFCSP25-3 for renovation of baseball and softball facilities at A&M Consolidated High School and College Station High School to Ducote Construction for $8,382,911, funded from 2024 bond proceeds.

Facilities staff said the project replaces grass with artificial turf across four fields and includes several alternates intended to stretch the project budget, such as upgraded backstop netting, replaced backstops, enhanced batting cages and turfing of on-deck (D) zones. The recommended contractor’s total included $300,000 in allowances; staff said unused allowances/contingencies would return to the district at project close.

Paul (presenter identified as the project lead) told the board that the timing for field access and construction depends on the high-school teams’ playoff schedules and weather, and the district is targeting Aug. 15 for substantial completion. Trustees approved the contract 6-0 (motion by Trustee Simmons; second by Trustee Iggy).

Why it matters: The contract implements work identified in the athletics bond approved by voters in May 2024 and is intended to upgrade facilities used by students in multiple programs, including athletics and physical education.

Next steps: Staff will coordinate schedules around school and athletic calendars, manage alternates and allowances, and return to the board with routine construction updates as the project proceeds.
