Live Oak police report shows 6,022 traffic stops in 2024; 88% involved nonresidents and department reports zero profiling complaints

The Live Oak Police Department presented its 2024 Tier 1 and Tier 2 traffic-stop report to the City Council on Feb. 25; the council approved the department’s data by a 5-0 vote.
Police Chief Keith Freitas said officers conducted 6,022 traffic stops in 2024 and that 88 percent involved nonresidents. “Of the 6,022 total stops last year, only 631 involved our residents,” he said. The department noted the city’s traffic volume is heavily influenced by motorists traveling on I-35 and Loop 1604.
Chief Freitas also reported that the department received zero complaints of racial profiling over the last seven years and that contraband was found in 92 percent of vehicle searches conducted after an officer requested a search. “Of the times that we said, ‘Hey, we would like to search,’ 92% of the time we actually found something,” he said.
Council members commended the department’s work and professionalism. The council voted to accept the Tier 1 and Tier 2 racial-profiling data for 2024 by a roll call recorded as 5-0.
