Saline County and City of Salina revise animal-control agreement to remove certain fee-based services

The Saline County Board of Commissioners voted to approve Amendment 1 to the county27s interlocal agreement with the City of Salina governing animal-control services.
County staff told the board the amendment removes two fee-based services from Exhibit A27s scope because those services are no longer provided by the Salina animal shelter: euthanasia requests and private cremations. All other elements of the interlocal agreement and the scope of services remain in place.
Staff said the action has no county budget impact beyond the existing annual payment to the City of Salina for animal-control services; county staff reported that Saline County will pay the city $40,318 in 2025 under the existing agreement for the services that remain.
County and city staff described how the operational relationship works: the city continues to pick up animals and respond to calls within the county when requested by the sheriff27s office, and the shelter maintains an on-call schedule for incidents outside the city limits. If staffing or emergency circumstances prevent a shelter response, the sheriff27s office may transport animals to the shelter.
The board approved the amendment on a unanimous voice vote.
