Tipton County Schools’ finance staff reported that a recent insurance payment and a large construction draw helped stabilize cash flow as the district closes its fiscal year.
Why it matters: Large reimbursements and construction payouts affect the district’s ability to pay contractors and meet construction schedules. The board was also briefed on the county budget timeline because the county’s action affects the district’s final funding allocations.
What finance staff said: Mister Dollery briefed the board that an $11 million insurance payment had been recorded in the district’s accounts. He also said Lincoln (the project team) provided a preliminary estimate for the June payout and that the May payout — the largest to date — was a little over $6.1 million, with $323,000 in retainage. Dollery said parts of the insurance payment covered contents and other non-construction items, so not all $11 million applied directly to construction costs. He said the district expected a partial insurance request in July if needed and that the district’s cash flow forecast looked healthy for construction disbursements.
Budget schedule: Dollery told the board the county’s finance committee had taken the district’s budget under advisement and that the county commission scheduled a July meeting (third Monday of July was discussed) to vote on the county and district budgets; Dollery said he expected the county vote in mid- to late July and would update the board when the date was finalized.
Other details: Dollery reported that a contents estimate for furniture and books was roughly $2.6 million based on initial vendor information; playground equipment was included in the guaranteed maximum price for construction and not part of the contents line-item.
Ending: Board members asked questions about timing and next payouts; staff indicated they would provide updated payout schedules and any insurance-request timelines as they become available.
