Commission asks town council to prioritize sanitation-pond site at Blackies Pasture for design work

Tiburon — At the March 17 meeting the Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission voted unanimously to ask the Town Council to prioritize the sanitation-pond area (referred to as the RBSD ponds) within Linear Park for early design work and to consider contracting a landscape or parks designer to develop preliminary plans.
Commissioners described prior community input and sketches from residents showing mixed recreational uses that could fit the pond site: flexible play courts (basketball/volleyball), a small grassy knoll, and shaded seating. Commissioner Mike Ghaffari and others said the ponds area has strong public interest and could satisfy multiple community requests.
The commission’s motion asked town council to prioritize the sanitation ponds and to engage a design consultant to work with the commission and town staff on concept designs that implement the approved parks and recreation master plan. The motion passed on a roll call vote: Chair Chuck Hornbrook — yes; Vice Chair Moon — yes; Commissioner Judge — yes; Commissioner Mike Ghaffari — yes.
Next steps: staff will forward the commission’s recommendation and the requested scope to town council for consideration; if council approves, staff and the commission aim to schedule community meetings and initiate preliminary design work for the ponds site.
