At the facilities update, board members summarized a presentation from the Community Coalition of Empire that proposes a cost analysis for relocating the district’s bus barn to free that site for housing. The coalition said it would present a more detailed plan around March and does not ask the district to provide initial funding.
Athletics and capital projects The facilities report noted a donor-provided scoreboard donation (approximately $100,000) and discussed installation timing. District staff said installing new, larger scoreboards now would cost about $20,000 more than waiting three months; the athletics director recommended prioritizing the nonworking baseball scoreboard first. Facilities staff also described painting, hallway and bathroom repairs, a new softball batting cage at the ESD site, and prioritized roof projects at Sunset as part of the long-range facilities plan.
Tours and next steps The facilities committee will meet next at Millicoma School and expects to present additional details on the proposed bus-barn relocation and capital-project sequencing to the board. Board members discussed whether to create reserve funds in the capital projects fund and noted that the district’s long-range facilities plan lists Sunset roof and high-school bathroom projects as tier 1 priorities.
Ending Facilities committee members asked staff to return with cost estimates and timing so the board can consider any supplemental-budget requests needed to carry projects forward.
