Southeast Tech student engagement office reports high intramural participation and plans for expanded programming

Callie Jorgensen, student success advisor and student engagement coordinator, briefed the board on fall and spring student engagement activities, survey results and planned events.
Jorgensen said the office surveyed students across six wellness dimensions and received 639 responses; 80% were ages 18–22 and 82% of respondents live on campus. She told the board 50% of students wanted in-person workshops and 58% requested resume help. "51% said that they would participate in a 30 minute activity between classes," she said.
The office ran five intramurals in the fall with 175 student participants and continued academic and special-interest organizations. Student speakers described leadership, community service and club activities: Trinity, a second-year early childhood student, said participating taught leadership and marketing skills and described community service events such as raking yards for less-mobile residents. Angel, a student involved in Roots multicultural club, said the club provided cultural learning and weekly events.
Jorgensen listed spring offerings including basketball intramurals (13 teams), bowling and a new skiing/snowboarding intramural with lessons at Great Bear, professional photo sessions, resume and LinkedIn help, a home-buying/mortgage presentation in partnership with Berkshire Hathaway, and recurring community service events. She said SkillsUSA will attend the state competition in April.
Board members acknowledged the student engagement update by motion and vote.
