School board approves $57,516 change order to replace RCEC roof and wall panels

Board members discussed two options: (1) replace the wall panels and install a screw-down exposed-fastener roof, which would add roughly $25,516 to the project, or (2) replace the wall panels and install a standing-seam roof, which would add $57,516. Stokes and other staff said the standing-seam product carries a longer useful life and a longer warranty than the screw-down option.
After questions about whether the roof condition was known before construction and whether purlins would be repaired, the board approved the standing-seam option and the associated wall-panel replacement. The motion passed after members voted "aye." The board noted the $57,516 will be paid from the project92s contingency fund; staff reported the RCEC project had approximately $150,000 in contingency.
The board also approved a separate motion giving Superintendent Dr. Holloway and Mr. Dodd authority to approve small change orders up to $10,000 without bringing each to the board. Board members said the smaller authorizations would allow staff to cover unplanned minor items such as electrical box replacements without repeated board action.
The board asked staff to present materials showing proposed siding colors and product samples before installation to confirm they match existing district colors.
Votes and formal action: the board approved the standing-seam change order (additional $57,516) and later approved administrative authority for change orders up to $10,000.
