Board previews draft 2025–26 goals focused on belonging, student learning and organizational stability

The Minnetonka School Board on Jan. 7 reviewed a publicly posted draft of proposed board goals for the 2025–26 school year, emphasizing well-being and belonging, student learning, and leadership and organizational support.
Superintendent David Law introduced the goal-setting process and said the district solicited staff, student and community feedback in October and November and that the draft would be shared broadly for additional comment before final adoption in May or June. The draft includes three proposed goals: (1) strive for excellence in well-being, connection and belonging; (2) ensure excellence in student learning and support; and (3) improve leadership and organizational support.
Under each goal the draft lists action items. Examples include deepening implementation of belonging efforts, strengthening school-based mental-health supports and continuing the JED Foundation partnership for high-school mental health; focusing on high-quality universal instruction, supporting teacher collaboration, prioritizing literacy initiatives and monitoring programs that serve special-education and English-learner students; and ensuring long-term financial stability, recruiting and retaining staff, using facility-study task-force recommendations to prioritize capital needs, and implementing no-cost meal legislation within federal nutrition guidance.
Dr. Getty, executive director of communications, said the draft goals and an executive summary will be shared in school news and district mailings and that the board will collect feedback from parents, students and staff. Board members commended the executive summary as a helpful way to present the goals to the public and encouraged residents to comment; the board noted it may hold an additional planning meeting if needed.
Ending The board will accept public feedback on the draft in the coming weeks and expects to adopt a final version in May or June before the FY26 start date of July 1, 2025.
