Valley Center announces grand opening for new recreation center; soft opening underway

Clark described the project as a multi‑year, citizen‑driven effort that began after the community approved a voter‑backed sales tax in November 2020. He said the city began collecting the sales tax in April 2021 and that higher-than‑expected local valuations increased revenue available for the project. Clark thanked the steering committee and city staff for completing the project and said the grand opening activities will include an open house followed by a ribbon cutting and the start of paid memberships.
A staff speaker noted a soft opening that allowed employees and committee members to test facilities, including the pool, gym and equipment. Clark said the grand opening would be held “on Saturday, the 22nd,” with an open house followed by a ribbon cutting and membership activation. He thanked residents and committee volunteers and said the location and facility were chosen to best serve the community.
Council members and staff also used the staff‑report time to recognize recent hires and ongoing projects; the meeting record shows recruitment updates, a bank conversion, and construction schedule adjustments for Meridian Street projects.
