Jenny Horgan, senior public policy manager for the Alzheimer’s Association in New Hampshire, told the committee on Feb. 21 that the subcommittee chaired by Senator Abart has spent the past year compiling information on dementia care, caregiver strains, instances of abuse and exploitation, and available services across the state.
Horgan said the subcommittee’s next step is to identify gaps in services and begin drafting a state plan to coordinate services and recommendations. The report the subcommittee produced, finalized in November, included presentations from the Bureau on Adult and Aging Services, law‑enforcement silver‑alert program managers and the Department of Fish and Game.
Committee members asked for follow‑up materials and meeting notices; Horgan said the subcommittee plans to meet in March and that she would email meeting details to legislators. When asked about clinical capacity, Horgan said, anecdotally, the state has a small number of geriatricians and that the subcommittee will analyze capacity and facility availability as part of the state plan.
Horgan invited legislators to review the subcommittee report and return with questions; the subcommittee intends to compile recommendations this year.
