Senators and representatives on the Ways and Means General Fund Committee gave SB 63 a favorable report after a brief presentation describing an expansion of fingerprinting and DNA-collection requirements.
A presenter told the committee the bill would require that when an individual in custody is processed before bond, the state obtain fingerprints and DNA and submit DNA to the forensic database. The presenter said the practice already applies to all felonies and certain sexual and misdemeanor offenses and that SB 63 "just adds 1 more group" to those currently covered.
The committee took a voice vote. The chair called for those in favor of SB 63 to indicate so; members responded "Aye," and the chair announced SB 63 was given a favorable report. The transcript includes congratulations to a member identified as Chairman Dale on a recent appointment but contains no further debate or fiscal detail on SB 63.
Ending: SB 63 advances with a favorable committee report.
