Facilities director reports steady progress on annex, exhibit building and YDC; county explores adding showers and sidewalk repairs

Dan Kendall, Bannock County facilities director, gave his monthly maintenance and project update, reporting completed inspections and ongoing work at several county properties, including the annex, the exhibit building and the Youth Development Center (YDC).
Kendall said the annex fire suppression system and ceiling grid are installed, lights are being powered up and HVAC start‑up is expected within roughly 30 days. He said the exhibit building contractor will start underground work (plumbing and some electrical) and that concrete pours are planned as weather permits.
“We're gonna start with the underground work. So that's kind of an important step of the process to... get all that plumbing put in there,” Kendall told commissioners, adding that contractor Teton West has been “super good, super efficient.”
Kendall said crews are digging the footing and foundation trench at the YDC and that some sidewalk sections around the courthouse show frost heave; staff will monitor a handful of locations and replace sections as needed when temperatures permit. He said some sidewalk ramps are up an inch‑and‑a‑half and that repairs will delay final inspection until completed.
A commissioner asked whether it would be feasible to stub a shower into one restroom in the fair board’s new building to provide an emergency wash or shower for maintenance staff. Kendall said janitor sinks and an employee restroom exist and that adding a stub for a future shower would not substantially increase cost if planned now; he recommended considering it during the current plumbing phase.
Kendall also described ongoing snow removal and recent annual safety inspections (alarms, sprinklers and backflow preventers) that passed. He said the metal detector for courthouse security is expected in April and that landscaping and finishing work at Sixth Street is awaiting better weather.
Commissioners praised the contractor teams and noted that the exhibit building is running ahead of schedule with quality work; Kendall said the county will continue to monitor systems, finish interior work and coordinate final inspections.
