A College Station ISD trustee presented a report on attendance improvement and an incentive program the district used to raise student daily attendance. The trustee described the district’s attendance rate rising from 94.9 percent (reported for 2022–23) to 95.3 percent for the current year and estimated that the higher attendance translated to roughly $385,000 in additional funding based on state average daily attendance formulas.
The trustee explained principals and campus staff used a combination of incentives and outreach to families to increase attendance, and singled out Rock Prairie Elementary and A&M Consolidated as campuses that showed notable gains. The trustee said the district planned to distribute $34,900 back to campuses under the incentive payout and noted that campuses that sustain improvement could earn larger amounts through a multiplier built into the incentive design; the presenter described a mechanism that could multiply payouts by up to five times if district-wide thresholds were sustained.
Board members asked for more campus-level breakdowns and recommended giving individual campuses flexibility to design and operate incentive strategies. Trustees emphasized that attendance affects instruction and state funding and urged continued focus on outreach to families and monitoring through the remainder of the school year. The presentation was informational; the board did not take formal action on the report.
