The Oakdale City Council on Feb. 18 authorized the city manager to enter a one-year agreement with TruGreen LP for turf management services at $40,000 annually, with funding drawn from the park maintenance fund (Fund 110) and two landscape and lighting maintenance district (LLMD) funds (284 and 286).
City staff described the contract as a professional chemical turf maintenance program covering pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control and fertilization, with monthly reporting and state-required applicator certification. "This is a resolution authorizing the city manager into a 1 year agreement with TruGreen LP for weed abatement services, and really it's turf management services, in the amount of $40,000 annually," the presenting staff member told the council.
Council members asked whether the agreement includes parkways and medians and whether it covers all park turf areas; staff confirmed it covers parks and parkway strips but not other city property outside those funds. Concerns about public health were raised: a council member asked whether the chemicals present hazards to children or pets and whether residents would be notified before spraying. Staff replied that the contractor would not use Roundup and that the materials would not be hazardous for turf application; reporting and certification would be followed. The contract has an initial one-year term with two one-year renewal options at the same price.
After questions from council, the measure passed on a unanimous roll call vote.
