City introduces new code enforcement officer; manager previews pool feasibility update and summer hires

The council introduced Matt Hasselbeck as Saint Marys’ new code enforcement officer. Hasselbeck, who began work two weeks earlier, will focus on property-maintenance code violations and ‘‘then we’ll introduce him to some other things,’’ the mayor’s office said during introductions. Hasselbeck addressed the council and said, "Glad to be here. Thanks for coming, Matt. If you ever need if you ever need anything, you know, I'm in and out the office sometimes." City Manager Joe opened his manager’s report by thanking the fire department and other emergency services for their work and said, “We are incredibly fortunate to have such a compassionate and skilled team.” He told the council the street department has been working to keep city roadways safe amid ongoing winter weather and that feedback from citizens about street operations has been positive. The manager said pools feasibility study results will be presented or updated at the next meeting because an update will be available soon, and he said the finance department is finalizing the 2023 audit and will begin the 2024 audit in the near future.

The manager also said the parks and recreation department will post several seasonal summer positions later this month or in March. Councilmembers thanked the street department for storm work and welcomed the Boy Scouts in attendance.
