The Wauwatosa City Finance Committee approved the use of restricted Hart Park Senior Center funds to purchase additional furnishings for the Molnar building.
City staff told the committee the senior center had historically operated a separate checking account that was later moved into a restricted city account that can only be used for senior-center-related activities at Hart Park. Staff said the account balance is about $90,000 and recommended allowing up to $15,000 to purchase items not included in the original project budget.
"This is their money. They raised it, right?" Alder Arnie asked during committee discussion. "Correct," John replied, confirming the funds come from the senior center’s restricted account.
The motion to approve the fund transfer was made by Alder Gustafson and seconded by Alder Dolan. The committee voted 7-0 to approve the transfer.
Nut graf: The committee approved use of internally restricted funds rather than general city dollars; staff said the restricted account is limited to senior-center activities and has sufficient balance to cover the requested furnishings.
Ending: Staff will proceed with the requested purchases up to the $15,000 cap, and will report on expenditures as part of the city’s normal financial oversight procedures.
