Lago Vista building panel prioritizes enforcement, drainage and unsafe-structure reviews; elects chair and vice chair

The Lago Vista Building and Standards Commission on Tuesday adopted a work-plan focus on enforcement, drainage and unsafe-structure reviews, elected leadership for 2025 and moved its regular meeting time to 6:30 p.m.

Commissioners said code-enforcement issues — including follow-up on burned or derelict structures and on-site drainage problems arising from recent development — will be among the top items staff and the commission will address during the year.

The commission elected Frank Roberts chair after a nomination from Commissioner Dave Snyder and a second; the motion passed unanimously by voice/raised hands. Jim Cason was nominated and confirmed as vice chair. Commissioners also voted unanimously to change the commission's meeting start time from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Why it matters: Commissioners said enforcement gaps are producing recurring problems for homeowners and contributing to neighborhood drainage complaints. The panel emphasized the limits of its authority and the need for coordinated staff, legal and public-works follow-up for issues such as condemnation of unsafe buildings.
