Bee Cave schedules May elections including sales tax reauthorization and public safety facility proposition

The Bee Cave City Council on Feb. 11 approved several election-related ordinances to place matters on upcoming ballots.
Ordinance No. 560 calls the general election to fill expiring two-year council terms (members Clark, Hite and Willett) and authorizes combining the city’s election with Travis County; the council noted a deadline to order the election was Feb. 14 and that election costs of $40,000 are included in the budget.
Ordinance No. 561 calls a special election on May 3 to fill two vacant council seats where the unexpired terms are greater than one year; the city secretary explained the city charter’s vacancy rules and the filing timeline.
Ordinance No. 562 orders a special election on May 3 to reauthorize the city’s local sales-and-use tax allocation of one-eighth of one percent for municipal street maintenance and repair. The city secretary and staff clarified that state law requires reauthorization every four years and that this ordinance does not raise or add a tax but continues an existing allocation. Staff noted the road fund will be used for the Bee Cave Parkway overlay project previously approved in the budget, estimated at $2.5 million to $3.0 million.
Ordinance No. 563 submits a proposition for a proposed public safety facility to appear on the May 3 special election ballot. Staff said the project involves about 6.4085 acres (Lot 1, Park Place bearing property ID 119115) and is a partnership with Travis County ESD No. 6 (Lake Travis Fire and Rescue). The council moved the item into executive session earlier in the evening to consult with counsel; after returning, the council voted to approve the ordinance calling the election for the public safety facility proposition.
All four election-related ordinances were approved unanimously by the council. The city secretary summarized filing deadlines, early voting dates and required bilingual notices.
