Superintendent reports low FAFSA completion and renewed College Credit Plus outreach

Superintendent staff reported ongoing work to raise Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion among seniors and to boost participation in College Credit Plus (CCP) informational events.

Staff provided a timeline of FAFSA-related activities: FAFSA ID creation day on Nov. 24; a FAFSA “bridal” event in partnership with the Equal Educational Opportunity Center; and scheduled appointment dates including Jan. 17 and Jan. 24 with additional dates listed for late-month and March sessions. Daniel Boat Miller was identified in the materials as the liaison for completed FAFSA appointments.

The superintendent said year-to-date FAFSA completion was about 21%, and that staff aim to see a higher completion rate (the presenter referenced a target “at least 50–55%” during discussion) and will coordinate additional outreach and counseling with high-school staff.

On College Credit Plus outreach, staff reported an informational meeting held with Sinclair Community College that drew roughly eight families from an estimated 1,200 contacts; a follow-up session is scheduled for Feb. 11 via Zoom. Staff noted partnerships with Sinclair and Central State to expand access and pointed to the district’s college-promise messaging for first-generation students.
