During the board's strategic plan update on Jan. 15, district staff announced a hiring and internship fair scheduled for May 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Avondale Conference Center.
Chief Gross introduced the district's Leadership Cadre and identified Kayla Gassaway, a curriculum specialist and second-year Leadership Cadre participant, as part of the monthly update presenters. A district staff member identified in the record as Pam described the hiring event as an expansion of a three-year internship fair that will for the first time include both internship opportunities and job listings for graduating seniors, including summer and full-time positions.
The district credited the City of Avondale and Cheryl Covert for providing the Avondale Conference Center as the venue. Staff said the event is intended to connect juniors with CTE internships to build skills and to provide graduating seniors with entry-level job opportunities. Staff described the event as a way to help local employers meet workforce needs sooner than waiting for students to progress through the academy model.
Businesses interested in participating were asked to RSVP by April 4; staff said partners who attended the district's CTE advisory council received an email with sign-up information and that flyers and social-media posts will be used to publicize the event. A QR code was displayed during the presentation for employer sign-ups.
No formal board action was taken on the hiring-event presentation; it was provided as part of the monthly strategic-plan update and to give Leadership Cadre members public presentation experience.
