Turner & Townsend: justice building construction on schedule; commissioners enter executive session under state statute

Turner & Townsend project manager David Mendez told the Kootenai County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 31 that work on the county's justice building is ongoing and that the project's scheduled completion date has not changed.

"They are out there working. Things are moving along for the schedule, and the schedule completion date has not changed," Mendez said. He also said meetings on furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) concluded the prior week and that the firm would deliver recommendations to the commissioners the following week.

The status update was brief; commissioners asked no follow-up questions during the item.

Later in the meeting the board voted to enter executive session under Idaho Code 74-206(1)(f). The motion to enter executive session was made from the dais and seconded; Commissioner Bill Brooks recorded the second. All three commissioners recorded affirmative votes and the board entered executive session. After private deliberations, the board voted to exit executive session and directed staff to proceed as discussed.

The motion to enter executive session cited Idaho Code 74-206(1)(f), the local statute commissioners invoked on the record. The transcript records commissioners voting "Aye" for the motion and for the subsequent motion to exit and continue with staff action. The meeting was adjourned at 10:56 a.m.

The county has not provided additional details about the executive session's subject or any documents discussed; Idaho law permits statutory exceptions for executive sessions that the board cited on the record.
