Agua Fria board recognizes state champions Desert Edge and Canyon View, honors departing trustees Gina DeCote and Trey Terry

The Agua Fria Union High School District governing board used part of its Dec. 11 meeting to recognize student-athletes and coaches from two district schools and to honor departing board members.

Student recognitions: Desert Edge and Canyon View The board called forward coaches, athletic directors and players from Desert Edge High School and Canyon View High School to acknowledge state-championship seasons.

Representatives for Desert Edge thanked administrators, coaches, boosters and the community for support. A coach said the team had faced adversity earlier in the year but "people trusted the process, and we worked through that. And kids believed," and offered "hats off to everybody that supported us along the way." Players and coaches thanked boosters and staff; several student-athletes introduced themselves by name and spoke briefly from the podium.

Canyon View27s staff and coaches also expressed gratitude. Canyon View27s athletic director noted the school27s girls flag-football program is in its second year and highlighted that two players, Mackenzie Pope and Caitlin Jewell, had earned season recognitions; the AD said Caitlin Jewell was a finalist for the Ed Daughtrey award, and the team brought home a state championship trophy.

Board honors for departing trustees The board held extended remarks honoring governing board members Gina Marie De Cote and Trey Terry, who were serving their last meeting. Speakers recounted their service, community engagement and leadership on issues including workforce-development programs and pull-through support for students in ESS programs. Trustees and district staff thanked both for their years of service and invited attendees to a post-meeting celebration.

No formal actions were required to recognize the athletes or to hold the farewell; the recognitions were ceremonial and part of the regular meeting agenda.
