Hobbs district gets early work approval for new middle school; bids to be advertised in February

Hobbs Municipal Schools staff told the board the Public School Capital Outlay Council approved an early work package for the district’s new middle school and for a Hauser replacement project. Construction documents from Park Hill are expected at month’s end, and staff said they will advertise bids that include these projects with a deadline of Feb. 27.
District staff said guaranteed maximum price (GMP) discussions and cost estimates will follow, with GMPs for the two buildings expected by March 14. Staff plan to submit final documentation to the Public School Capital Outlay Council (PSCOC) for consideration at the April PSCOC meeting.
Staff also provided updates on ongoing projects: College Lane improvements are about 93% complete, with a new east‑side entry and parking work delayed by cold weather; an electrical panel swap and chiller work at Will Rogers are scheduled for Presidents’ Day to minimize community impact; Booker T. Washington will need additional sewer work this summer; playground replacement and tennis court wall repair projects are planned; and district staff intend to replant and restore practice fields near the stadium with temporary fencing to keep the public off until turf establishes.
The board did not take action on the construction schedule at this meeting; staff said they will proceed with advertised bids and follow state review and approval processes.
